The Ryerson Community Food Bank
Ryerson members in need are able to receive FREE FOOD! The Daily Bread Food Bank supplies the Community Food Room with perishable and non-perishable food items with optional vegetarian food. Members are encouraged to take 10 items per visit. Memberships are quick and easy to get, simply show us your Ryerson student card!
The Good Food Box
The Good Food Box is a non-profit fresh fruit and vegetable distribution system by FoodShare Toronto. The top-quality mixture of produce mainly comes from local farmers depending on what is in season and reasonably priced at the time.
Nutrition Information Service
The Community Food Room offers low-budget recipes, nutrition and healthy eating tips, and referral services. Come check out the links on our web site for reliable and informative nutrition information sites.
The Ryerson Community Food Garden
Newly planted seeds germinating for the NEW Ryerson Community Garden located outside the Campus Student Centre beside the Ram and the Rye. Some produce grown will supplement the Food Room as well as allow students to get involved in growing their own fruits and vegetables. Students can only access the garden during the Spring/Summer seasons. To get involved contact us or join the Facebook group: Ryerson Students' Community Garden!
History of the Community Food Room:
The need for a place to obtain affordable food on the Ryerson campus was first recognized in 1992 and led to the opening of the Student Feedback program in 1993. Student Feedback, housed in the Business building, served as a food bank, referral service and an advocacy centre. In 1997, Student Feedback was moved to a more central location in Jorgenson Hall. In 1999, our name changed from Student Feedback to the Community Food Room. The range of services provided through this program has since expanded to include providing nutrition information, distributing the Good Food Box and helping to run the new Community Garden outside the Ram and the Rye patio.
The generous support of the Ryerson Students’ Union and the Ryerson Community make this service possible.
The Community Food Room is located at SCC 212 on the 2nd Floor of the Student Centre (55 Gould St).
